Visually Impaired Artist Wins Delaware Individual Artist Fellowship

Newark resident Trebs Thompson, a low vision glass and found object artist has won an Individual Artist Fellowship from the state of Delaware in the established artist category.

Aged 57, with no formal arts background, she begin telling her stories in glass in her early 40s. Five years later she was diagnosed with Parafoveal Macular Telangiectasia, a rare blinding condition.

Convinced that her budding emergence in the arts was over, Trebs almost gave up making art. A late night epiphany on a camping trip convinced her to try adapting her techniques as her eye sight changed, a gambit which has been successful.

She is a member of the Trashy Women, a collective of found object artists. They are celebrating their 20th anniversary. Their next show opens at the Henry Gallery at Penn State in Malvern on April, 9, 2024.

Trebs will be announcing a solo show later in the year.

This organization is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on DelawareScene.com.
